hackle pliers
is an easy-to-usefly tying tool
that securely holds a hackle or other feather so it can be efficiently wound onto the hook. With theJMC standard large hackle pliers
, a fly tier can tie dry flies such as spiders, fins, or parachutes. It is also possible to use larger feathers like lancets to rib a streamer (e.g., woolly bugger, dog nobbler, hummingbird).
